MYFOXNY.COM - A Wayne, N.J., resident was found dead inside his home, and authorities say his body was probably lying there for more than a year.
Donald Domsky lived alone in a little house on Black Oak Ridge Rd.
Neighbors say his rancher always looked run-down, with peeling paint and falling gutters, so they didn't think much when it wasn't kept up in the past year.
The postal service also didn't seem to notice, even though Domsky's mail kept piling up. The town even mowed his lawn last year when neighbors complained.
His neighbors wondered what had happened, but no one was sure if he was still living at the house.
"He's a recluse. We've never seen lights on in the house," an unnamed neighbor who has lived on the street for ten years told Fox 5 News.
Neighbor Tom Leonard says he knocked on the door last year but got not answer.
"It's a shame he had to die alone," Leonard said.
Finally, police checked on him on Jan. 20 and found his body.
Valerie Doyle might have known Domsky as well as anyone. She waited on him for 20 years at Crossroads Eatery in Wayne.
"You're talking about someone who truly just went under the radar," Doyle says.
She says he would arrive very early in the morning to help them prepare for the morning rush. In return, they would give him cigarettes and coffee.
"He was very intelligent, very intellectual. He loved to study National Geographic," Doyle says.
Domsky appears to have died of natural causes but it was unclear how he died because his body had decomposed so much since he died.
Patrons at Crossroads Eatery planned a collection to hold a memorial service for Domsky.
