MYFOXNY.COM - First there was the shocking print advertisement produced for the World Wildlife Fund in Brazil meant to draw attention to conservation and the force of nature. It pointed out that far more people died in the 2004 tsunami than on 9/11.
That prompted outrage, but then a video version surfaced. The video re-creates planes crashing into the Twin Towers and a fleet of them converging on Manhattan. The video only aired once on TV in Brazil, but it is now circulating on the Internet.
Families of 9/11 victims are furious and are demanding the ads be pulled.
DDB, the ad agency that produced the poster and video, issued this statement:
"As president of DDB Brazil, I personally want to apologize for the Tsunami print and television ad created for the World Wildlife Fund in Brazil. The work should never have been approved."
In an exclusive interview, Fox 5 News asked Police Commissioner Ray Kelly about the ads. He says they are horrible insensitive and it's a "disgrace" that someone even dreamt it up.
The World Wildlife Fund's U.S. branch released its own statement, saying it had no connection to the ads and finds them "horrifying" and "appalling."
The advertising agency says the controversial ad will not run again.
