NEW YORK (AP) - A 20-year-old Staten Island man died after he lost control of his speeding car and hit a utility pole before crashing into a gas pump.
The pump exploded, with flames surrounding the car. Police said another man was rescued from the vehicle following the accident around 2 a.m. Saturday on Bay Street. He was treated at a hospital and released.
The dead man was identified as Philip Boney-Scrivano. Neighbors said he had just bought the Honda sedan he was driving in recent days.
