MYFOXNY.COM - MYFOXNY.COMĀ -- A BLIZZARD WARNING for numerous counties in both New York and New Jersey as well as Pennsylvania is in effect until tomorrow at 6 A.M.
Several inches of snow are already on the ground . The low temperature will drop to 28 degrees in Midtown and 23-28 degrees across the suburbs. Winter Storm Warnings have been issued for the entire area from late tonight into early Thursday morning.
The snow will continue through Wednesday but may mix a little with sleet and some rain along the New Jersey shore and eastern Long Island. As the storm moves to our south and intensifies, any mixed precipitation will go back to snow and become heavy at times in the afternoon tapering down in the evening.
The wind will be out of the northeast and increase to between 15 and 40 MPH causing blowing and drifting of snow and this may create blizzard conditions at times. Total snow accumulation will be generally around 1 foot of snow but heavier snow bands may leave behind up to as much as 16 inches of snow.
Lesser amounts are likely over the New Jersey shore and eastern Long Island due to the mixed precipitation resulting in 7 to 10 inches of snow there. Also 7 to 10 inches of snow can be expected over the far northern suburbs as they will a bit north of the heavy snow band. High temperatures will hold in the upper 20s to the low 30s.

WEDNESDAY
New York will see heavier snow showers develop as well as upper New Jersey and parts of Long Island. The winds will be light at the beginning of the snowstorm, but will quickly blow faster as the system moves off the coast of Long Island.
Gusty conditions could arrive as early as 5 AM for New York City where they could reach speeds of 20 - 30 MPH.
During the evening commute, of 5 - 7 PM, expect near blizzard conditions with heavy snowfall, gusty winds greater than 30 MPH and blinding visibility.
After midnight on Thursday: snow showers will lighten up but the winds will stick around. By Thursday morning before the morning commute, there should be just clouds with sun eventually returning.
