NEW YORK - The first column that will allow for the installation of the first floors of 1 World Trade (also known as the Freedom Tower) will be put in place today.

The building will be the center of the new World Trade Center.

Twenty-four jumbo columns weighing approximately 70 tons each and 60 feet long will be brought in from New Jersey to lower Manhattan.

One World Trade is expected to be 1,776 feet high when completed by 2018.

Construction on the tower began in 2006.

Disputes over who should pay for the site continue among the developer, Governor David Paterson and the Port Authority of NY and NJ.

The area will be home to a museum dedicated to the history of the site including its destruction on 9/11/01.
