MYFOXNY.COM - The Port Authority shut down a runway at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York Wednesday morning because dozens of turtles emerged from Jamaica Bay and crawled onto the tarmac, the AP reported.
Grounds crews from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spent more than half an hour gathering up the turtles and put them back in the bay, further from airport property.
The closure of the runway caused flight delays of up to 90 minutes.
The Diamondback terrapins appeared to be about 8 inches long and weigh 2 to 3 pounds each, the AP reported.
