Moments before the crown of the Statue of Liberty was reopened, a special naturalization ceremony was held at the base of the statue.
Seven members of the U.S. Military became U.S. citizens on July 4, 2009. The seven men were all born in different countries, but served as sailors, marines, and soldiers in the Armed Forces.
The seven new citizens will join more than 47, 000 other people who served in the military and then became U.S. citizens after the September 11th, 2001, terrorist attacks.
