Airline Fees Rising, Again

Updated: Saturday, 04 Jul 2009, 9:47 PM EDT

MyFoxNY.com - Before you book that next flight, listen up. Airline fares and fees are set to climb.

Fox's Melanie Alnwick takes a look at the reasons behind the hike (watch the video, left). The nation's carriers can't seem to catch a break.

Last year the airlines were hit with high gas prices and now the recession has forced many to cut flights, lay off personnel, and raise fares.

Airlines are looking to build their cash reserves and Lori Ranson with Airline Business Magazine says 'a la carte' fees will bring in nearly $500 million this year. "They'll tell you that's a win win, because the consumers get exactly what they want and it's an opportunity for airlines to make some extra revenue in these weak economic times," she says.

Consumers should read bargain offers carefully and could possibly save money by pre-paying your baggage fees.
