MYFOXNY.COM - The death of New York off-duty Detective Omar Edwards has sparked a call for changes in patrol cars.
State Sen. Eric Adams and representatives from Protect-All Security Products displayed a new vehicle on the same Harlem streets where Edwards was shot.
The cars are equipped with 360-degree panaoramic recorders. Adams is among those who believe the new surveillance cameras could help future investigations.
Edwards, 25, was killed in what police said was a case of mistaken identity.
"This will save our city millions of dollars by showing when officers do the right thing, who either can't get it right or who should not be wearing a police uniform," said Adams.
NYPD officials have not approved the recorders and would not
comment on whether they would consider using them.
