NYPD Cop Charged in Drug Money Scheme

NEW YORK (AP) - A veteran NYPD patrolman has been arrested on charges he plotted to steal a small fortune hidden in a former drug den.

Shawn Jenkins was jailed Wednesday on federal robbery charges. There was no immediate comment from his attorney.

Prosecutors say the 41-year-old Jenkins was recorded by an informant talking about a scheme to subdue the current tenant of the upper Manhattan apartment and make off with $900,000 rumored to be stashed under the floor. Internal affairs officers and federal agents were waiting to grab him Tuesday night when he arrived there.

The current tenant told authorities that burglars have repeatedly targeted the home since the coke dealer who lived there before was locked up. Last year, someone ripped up the floorboards while the tenant was on vacation.
