Thousands of union workers across New York City gathered outside City Hall on Thursday at protest tax cuts, budget cuts and job cuts.
Watch the report from Fox 5's Dick Brennan (video, left).
The rally was coordinated with simultaneous community rallies taking place in Albany, Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, White Plains and Binghamton. Labor leaders, community activists and parents urged Gov. Paterson, the Senate and the Assembly to do their part to prevent devastating cuts to schools, hospitals and other services.
The rallied also caused problems with mass transit. The M1, M6, X1, X3, X4, X10, X11, X12, X16, X17 and X19 routes will either bypass bus stops between Chambers and Barclay Streets, be rerouted to adjoining streets and experience significant delays in service between 3 and 7 p.m. In addition, the City Hall "R," "W," Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall "4," "5," "6," and Park Place "2," "3" stations may experience overcrowding and stairway closures.
