MYFOXNY.COM - New York City's public schools were closed for the first time in 5 years as a major snowstorm hit the city.
The Department of Education blamed snow and wind for the decision. Department of Education offices were not officially closed.
New York City wasn't the only major city in the Northeast to close on Monday. Philadelphia and Boston also closed their public schools.
Areas of the tri-state could see more than one foot of snow. Wind gusts could reach 35 miles per hour during the day. That would classify the storm as a nor'easter.
