Strong winds helped fan the flames of a house fire in the Woodhaven section of Queens.

Several houses burned along 96th Street in the Woodhaven section of Queens Thursday afternoon. More than 200 firefighters responded to the scene. The wind fanned the flames and made it more difficult for firefighters to get the blaze under control.
The fire broke out at around 12:45 p.m. and quickly went to 6 alarms. First responders were able to get residents and neighbors to safety. At least a dozens homes burned. No one was hurt.
