MYFOXNY.COM -- The University at Buffalo evacuated a library on its suburban Amherst campus after getting a report of a man with a rifle, officials said. But after an initial investigation, university police did not find anyone matching the description.
Cops searched Lockwood Library for a man described as white, early 20s, short brown hair but not a brush cut, 5-foot-6 or taller, light facial hair, Navy pea coat, carrying what appeared to be a rifle, according to the university.
"The investigation is continuing, but UB Police were not able to confirm there was a man with a gun on campus," said a message on the university's Web site. "Amherst Police responded to the incident and assisted University Police in a comprehensive search of the library. Buffalo Police patrolled UB's South Campus temporarily while UB Police deployed officers to the North Campus. No suspect or weapon was found."
University officials canceled classes on the North Campus and stepped up police patrols for Tuesday evening.
A campus spokesperson said no one had been hurt and no shots were fired, the AP reported.
The University at Buffalo is the flagship institution of the State University of New York.
