Taconic Crash: Family Meets with District Attorney

MYFOXNY.COM EXCLUSIVE - Diane Schuler was going the wrong way on the Taconic Parkway when she caused an accident that killed eight people.

Families who lost loved ones in that crash are asking the Westchester district attorney why she didn't convene a grand jury to investigate the case in which eight people died.

Westchester D.A. Janet DiFiore met with victims' families to try to answer any lingering questions they may have so far.

The family of Guy and Michael Bastardi and their attorneys feel only a grand jury could get to the bottom of the case, by forcing all witnesses to testify. But the DiFiore told them any witness would get immunity.

Also, DiFiore said that it appeared that any criminality committed died with Diane Schuler. The medical examiner report said Schuler was drunk and high when she crashed going the wrong way on the parkway.

The Bastardis feel someone may have given Diane Schuler drugs and alcohol before she left a Sullivan County campground, but the D.A. showed the Bastardis video of her at McDonald's later that morning, and she appeared sober.

Now the TV show Law and Order is said to be already shooting an episode that dramatizes the tragedy.

The Bastardi family attorneys say they will file a civil suit as soon as the D.A. turns over more information.
