Long Island Surfer Saved

MYFOXNY.COM - A 12-year-old boy who was surfing off East Atlantic Beach on Long Island is alive thanks to the quick actions of a doctor and an off-duty cop who happened to be at the same beach.

The boy was surfing when he suddenly went under. Moments later, he was pulled from the surf. Witnesses said his lips were blue and his face was ashen.

A cop on rushed to help and began giving the boy CPR. Then Dr. Stephen Nicholas, who was on vacation and was at the beach, joined in to help.

A medical chopper airlifted the boy to Nassau University Medical Center for treatment.
