Fire investigators from Suffolk County are looking into the possibility that a massive blaze at a home in Holtsville was sparked by a lightning strike.

A man in the house managed to make it out alive late Thursday night before flames engulfed the home on Jamaica Avenue.

Fox 5 Reporter Linda Schmidt reported from the scene. Watch the video (left.)

Firefighters used chainsaws to get to the roof to fight the flames.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries. Five fire departments from neighboring towns helped fight the flames.

Residents in the area tell Reporter Linda Schmidt that they heard a loud boom as lightning struck. Soon after, the house caught fire.

The Suffolk County Arson Squad and the Town of Brookhaven are investigating the fire.

The house is now boarded up after being completely destroyed.

Trees and power lines surround the house.

The neighboring home is only approximately 20 yards away.
