Umbilical Cord Tied With Dental Floss

HEMPSTEAD, LONG ISLAND - A newborn girl was abandoned in the lobby of an apartment building on Long Island and left in a shoebox. Nassau County Police say she was found Sunday night at 5 Lafayette Avenue and wrapped in a blanket.

Her umbilical cord was tied off with dental floss. She is described as a white or hispanic female less than 24 hours old at the time she was found in Hempstead.

She was admitted to Nassau University Medical Center. Police officials say she is in "very good health."
