MYFOX NEW YORK STAFF REPORT

MYFOXNY.COM - Newark police are investigating the circumstances of an arrest in which an officer kicked a suspect during a traffic stop, Police Director Garry McCarthy said.

The arrest and altercation was caught on video, which shows officers pulling a suspect out of a crashed SUV on Route 12 on Friday.

Police said the man, Jamil Richardson of Newark, who was behind the wheel of the SUV, was drunk and belligerent. He crashed his SUV and then drove off. A fire department truck actually pursued Richardson before he crashed his vehicle again, police said.

The officer involved said Richardson pushed him when cops tried to arrest him.
