At least two Newark police officers were hospitalized after a car crash Monday evening, authorities said.
A Newark Police patrol car tried to pull over a car, but the car took off and led the police on a chase onto Route 280 eastbound. When the car crossed into Kearny, Kearny Police and the State Police took over the pursuit, authorities said.
The officers followed the suspects' car back into Newark on Route 280 westbound. That is when the suspects' car crashed into a Newark Police car, injuring one officer, officials said.
The suspects' car continued until South 13th Street, where two men got out and fled into Westside Park. Officers caught up to one person and were looking for at least one other suspect.
Two officers were taken to UMDNJ, one for observation and the
other for minor leg injuries. Their conditions were not immediately
known.
