PATERSON, N.J. - A bull headed for slaughter broke loose and made a dash for freedom Monday morning in Paterson.
Paterson police were finally able to corral the 1,400-pound bull.
Chief John DeCando, spokesman for Paterson Police's animal control division, told NorthJersey.com that the bull was being unloaded at ENA Met Packing Inc. on East 5th Street.
It happened at about 8:30 a.m. when the animal broke loose and made a 10-block run. The animal made it to Seventh Street where crowds of people in the Bunker Hill industrial area came out from a scrap yard and nearby factories to take pictures of the bizarre chase.
Police tried to lasso the bull, but the animal dragged officers down the block.
Officers finally corralled the animal and sedated it.
No one was injured and the bull was returned to the slaughterhouse.
