Police in New Jersey are investigating bomb threats made to three synagogues along the Jersey Shore Tuesday. The threats turned out to be false alarms, but police did evacuate the synagogues.
At about 8:10 p.m. Tuesday, someone called the Deal Police Department and said that bombs were about to explode at the Norwood Temple, 128 Norwood Avenue in Deal, the Congregation Brothers of Israel, 250 Park Avenue in Long Branch, and Ohel Simha Temple, 295 Park Avenue in Long Branch, police said.
Cops evacuated and then searched the three synagogues, but did not find any explosives. One of the locations was hosting a wedding at the time of the threat. Cops had to clear out about 300 people from that wedding. No one was hurt at any of the synagogues.
The person who made the threats is described as a man who spoke with what sounded like a Middle Eastern accent, police said.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, Long Branch and Deal police, the FBI, the Monmouth County Office of Homeland Security, the New Jersey State Police, and the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office are all investigating the incident.
Authorities hope someone with information about these threats will come forward. If you have any tips, you can call:
