MONMOUTH BEACH, New Jersey - A humpback whale that washed ashore on Monmouth Beach will be laid to rest there, too.
Officials with the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Bringantine say the dead humpback will be buried at the beach on Tuesday.
It's not clear what caused the whale's death or why it ended up on the shore on Monday.
Dead whales wash up on the Jersey shore a couple times a year.
According to Wikipedia.com , a humpback whale is one of the larger rorqual species, adults range in length from 12–16 metres (40–50 ft) and weigh approximately 36,000 kilograms (79,000 lb). The humpback has a distinctive body shape, with unusually long pectoral fins and a knobbly head.
