JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Hundreds of law enforcement officers gathered in Jersey City Friday to honor a police officer killed in the line of duty. Services for Det. Marc DiNardo took place at St. Aeden's Church.

The 37-year-old married father of three young children was shot in the face storming an apartment on July 16. Four other police officers were wounded in the gun battle and two armed robbery suspects were killed.

 

DiNardo was taken off life support and pronounced dead on Tuesday, one day before his 38th birthday.

Hundreds attended a blood drive that his family organized in his memory on Wednesday. New Jersey Blood Services says it was the second-largest single-day blood drive in the agency's 35-year history.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the scholarship fund established by the POBA. All contributions should be made to:
