MYFOXNY.COM EXCLUSIVE - Police came to a home in Monmouth County, N.J., to investigate a break-in. What they found were four alligators, officials said. And according to the SPCA chief, one is unaccounted for.

Alligators living in the basement of a huge, fancy house on Deerfield Street in Marlboro Township? It does not sound possible, but Fox 5 EXCLUSIVELY obtained photos of the alligators police discovered. Some neighbors knew a little bit about the tale but not all that.

"We know that there was one, I did not know if it wasn't alligator or crocodile," one neighbor said.

The alligators are 3 feet to 3 and a half feet long. SPCA officials said they were in an aquarium with water and a filtration system.

According to the SPCA chief, there were originally four gators. But when authorities returned, one was missing.

According to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, it is illegal to have an alligator in a private residence.

For now, the gators are being left in the basement until the department can figure out where to move them.
