MYFOXNY.COM - A car struck and pinned a Hasbrouck Heights police officer on Route 17 Tuesday night, authorities said. The officer suffered a leg injury, and was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center.

The officer was directing traffic near the new Sonic America's Drive-In fast-food restaurant, which has been drawing huge crowds since it opened last month. The owners of the Sonic franchise have been paying for a special police detail to direct traffic on Route 17. It was not known if this officer was specifically assigned to this detail.

A witness told Fox 5 that a car was making an illegal U-turn on Route 17 when it collided with another car. Then one of those cars struck and pinned the cop.
