Passaic River Bodies

Two bodies have been pulled from different parts of the Passaic River just hours apart. Search teams found the body of a woman in the river in Elmwood Park. Meantime, in Clifton some anglers found the body of a 2-year-old girl in a bag.

Cops say two fisherman who were along the river Sunday yesterday found the plastic bag partially submerged in the water. When they opened the bag- they discovered the toddler's body.

The gruesome discovery was made just after one o'clock in the afternoon near the Ackerman Avenue Bridge.

About 7 hours later, Bergen County Police boats were on the water just 2 miles away in Elmwood Park. They retrieved the body of a woman. Police are trying to confirm if it is the 44-year-old Waldwick mother of three reported missing last Thursday.

Police don't believe the two cases are related.

AP Report: Woman's Body Recovered from Passaic River

ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. (AP) -- Authorities say they hope to soon identify the body of a woman pulled from the Passaic River who appeared to be around the same age as a northern New Jersey mother of three missing since last week.

Divers from the Bergen County Police Department recovered the body about 8 p.m. Sunday from the river in Elmwood Park. The woman appeared to be around the same age as the 44-year-old Waldwick woman who went missing Thursday.

Elmwood Park Chief of Police Donald Ingrasselino (in-GRAHS-uh-LAHN-oh) said results of an autopsy performed Monday don't indicate foul play and seem consistent with a drowning. He said dental records were being checked to make a positive identification.

The Waldwick woman's name has not been disclosed. She was reported missing by her husband.

AP Report: Body of Girl Found in Passaic River

CLIFTON, N.J. (AP) -- The body of a girl believed to be about 2 years old has been found in the Passaic River in an industrial area in northern New Jersey.

Authorities say two men fishing in the river Sunday afternoon found a bag in the water at the shoreline and found the body inside the bag.

Firefighters and a police detective searched by boat along the wooded shoreline for evidence. Investigators are trying to determine the girl's identity.
