MYFOXNY.COM - A bizarre murder-mystery was unfolding in two states. Late Friday, New Jersey state police said a husband was charged with murdering his wife and concocting a twisted tale of a carjacking on the New Jersey Turnpike  that left him with stab wounds and fractured ribs – and left his young wife dead.

Now, Ryan Holness has been charged with the murder of 26-year-old Serika Dunkley Holness. Police said the murder actually happened in a rural part of Maryland. There was no carjacking anywhere in New Jersey.

Watch the report from Fox 5's Giovanna Drpic (video, left).

Police said Ryan Holness made up the carjacking story, claiming the alleged ordeal happened after the couple visited relatives in Brooklyn. Holness said they were carjacked when he and his wife stopped for gas on the New Jersey Turnpike.

Holness claimed he was bound with duct tape and worked for hours to free himself and tried to flag down passing motorists but was unable to do so.

He also after he was bound, his wife tried to flee, but was run down by the suspect and assaulted.

Ryan Holness was found with stab wounds and fractured ribs; his wife was stabbed in in her upper body.

Police were still trying to sort through this bizarre murder mystery.

An autopsy will be performed on Serika Holness.
