FDNY, Rescued Churchgoer Reunite

MYFOXNY.COM - Some firefighters who saved a parishioner's life during Mass were reunited at church with the man they saved Thursday.

"I fell down hit my head and turned blue," says Dr. Leroy Sharer. He was attending Mass at St. Mary's Church in Midtown Manhattan in January when he simply collapsed.

Other parishioners jumped up to help him while they waited for rescuers to arrive. But Dr. Sharer, who was suffering a heart attack, had no pulse until firefighters with Engine Company 65 arrived minutes later.

"While we do believe in miracles we also believe in CPR," says Salvatore Cassano, the fire commissioner.
