FRANKLIN SQUARE, N.Y. - Nassau County police say a man driving drunk caused a three-vehicle accident that caused a 5-year-old girl to be thrown from one of the cars.

Police say Kevin Roberts, 60, of Franklin Square was driving westbound on Hempstead Turnpike. He tried to turn onto Claflin Blvd. when his Oldsmobile collided with an eastbound Toyota.

The impact pushed the Toyota into a Honda and then a metal pole. The woman's car started to spin, at which time the 5-year-old girl, who police say was not belted in, was thrown from the Toyota.

The driver of the Toyota and her four passengers were taken to a hospital. The 5 year old was listed in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries. No one else was injured.

Roberts faces aggravated vehicluar assault, driving while intoxicated and other charges. Police say his blood alcohol levels were above .18.
