MYFOXNY.COM - A horrific car crash on Long Island killed two people and put two others in the hospital early Thursday, and the teenage driver was drunk, police said.
The two surviving victims are being treated at Southside Hospital, as is the driver, who appears to be the least injured.
Friends were inconsolable as they came to the spot where the victims died. Hours earlier, a mangled car- was wrapped around a tree and bodies were everywhere in Central Islip.
"I looked out the window and I seen a car wrapped around the tree," said Davon McNair, a witness. "I'm thinking just another accident everybody made it out but when I came outside, you could see the boy's body laid against the tree."
That boy, Kenyen Gaskins, 23, of Central Islip, who lives right near the scene of the crash, didn't make it.
"He was a really good kid," said a friend. "Good kid, loved by everybody as you can see."
Kelly Mallazzo, 18, of Hauppauge, was also killed.
Cops told Fox 5 that the driver -- Taylor Nolte, 19, of Centereach, was drunk and lost control of the car, slamming into one tree, completely shearing it off its base, and then wrapping around another.
Police said it appears the five friends had been drinking all night as they drove around. Beer cans were found in the car, which cops believe was speeding, maybe going as fast as 80 miles an hour. Even the experienced officers on the scene were shocked anyone made it out alive.
"When I first got to the scene, I was amazed that people actually survived it," said Det. Sgt. William Rand of the Suffolk police. "It's one of worst accidents I've seen since I've been on the job."
Nolte's blood was drawn and is being tested. She will be arraigned when her condition improves and she is released from the hospital, police said.
