Body Found in Torched Car

FREEPORT(AP) - Police on Long Island say they're investigating the discovery of a body in a vehicle that was on fire behind a synagogue.

Nassau County police say in a press release that police and fire officials responded to a vehicle fire behind the B'nai Israel Temple in Freeport on Friday night.

Police say the body was found in the vehicle after the fire was extinguished. They say the victim was injured in the torso and that he was a black male.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 10 p.m. and taken to the county medical examiner's office.

Police ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
