Private colleges are expensive. Add to that room and board and the price tag balloons. That is why many students at a college on Long Island are outraged that their dormitory rooms are riddled with mold.
The New York Institute of Technology students live in off-campus accommodations in Old Westbury. They told Fox 5 that they complained about black mold in their rooms and bathrooms.
Experts say certain types of mold can trigger allergies and others can even be toxic. NYIT told us Fox 5 News that a visual inspection of the mold confirmed it was not dangerous.
NYIT said it had five complaints about mold in student bathrooms and immediately addressed the problem. The institute said students were given the choice to move, but some of the students Fox 5 spoke to said that isn't true.
