WATERFORD, Conn. - The Millstone 2 nuclear reactor that had been shut down after a storm earlier this month, remains offline after discovery of a leak in the coolant system.
The unit at the Millstone Power Station in Waterford had been shut down since July 3 following an electrical storm that caused power fluctuations.
As operators were restarting the plant Monday they discovered a small leak in a reactor coolant pump.
A spokesman for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission says that the leak is slightly radioactive, but drains into a water collection area where it is captured.
A spokesman for Dominion, the plant owner, says it has pinpointed and is fixing the problem.
Both the NRC and Dominion say there's no danger from the leak to employees or the public.
