MyFoxNY.com - Stamford police have released the frantic 911 call made after a 200-pound domesticated chimpanzee went on a violent rampage that badly mauled a woman inside a home Monday. (Listen to the call in the media player, at left.)
Sandra Herold, who owned the 15-year-old chimp named Travis, wrestled with the animal after it inexplicably attacked her friend Charla Nash, 55.
COMPLETE CHIMP ATTACK COVERAGE
A hysterical Herold called 911 to report that her pet had tore her friend's "face off" in the attack and that the victim was "dead."
However Nash did survive the attack. She is listed in critical condition as of Tuesday evening.
Police responded to the scene. The chimp went after them and even tried entering a police car. That prompted the officer in that car to shoot Travis, who retreated to his room and died.
