MYFOXNY.COM - A beautiful day was marred by tragedy, when a van struck five pedestrians in a church parking lot Sunday afternoon, killing one person and sending four others to the hospital.

The incident occurred at 2407 McDonald Avenue, near Avenue T in the Gravesend section of Brooklyn.

The driver was a 73-year-old man who was backing his 2010 Mercedes Benz SUV out of a parking spot. He backed out in a semi-circle but then the car accelerated hitting the victims.

They were taken to Lutheran Hospital and all but one had minor injuries. One patient was in serious but stable condition.

The man did not flee the scene and the investigation is ongoing with no arrests yet, according to police.
