Firefighters Hurt in Bronx Fire

MYFOXNY.COM - When firefighters arrived at and apartment building on Longwood Avenue in the south Bronx Friday night, flames shot out from the fourth floor. The fire soon jumped to the fifth floor.

Then flames shot out form both floors, and suddenly two firefighters were trapped inside the building. They were trying to prevent the fire from spreading to the cockloft or airspace under the roof where it would spread tot the entire building.

The fire went to 3 alarms to get more firefighters to fight the blaze. It was brought under control in just over an hour. By the end, 19 firefighters were injured with minor burns and smoke inhalation.

Some residents s say the building has had fires before, but none this serious.
