Health officials on Long Island say a 12-month-old baby has a confirmed case of the measles.

The Nassau County Health Department says it has notified all emergency rooms, the county's Medical Society and Pediatric Society.

Health officials say the child may have exposed others to the disease during visits to locations in West Hempstead and Garden City last week.

The child was not identified and recently traveled internationally.

Anyone who feels they have symptoms or may have been exposed are being asked to call health care providers or emergency rooms before going for care so that others are not exposed to the illness.

Symptoms include: fever that gradually rises to as high as 105 degrees, runny nose, cough, reddened eyes, sensitivity to light, small- bluish white spots surrounded by a reddish area on the gums and inside of cheeks, red blotchy rash on face and spreads downward and outward reaching the hands and feet.

Symptoms appear in 10 to 12 days or as late as 18 days after exposure.
