MYFOXNY.COM - The NYPD Harbor Unit rescued a buck stranded on the shores of Governors Island.
The deer could be seen moving back and forth over rocks near the water on the western shoreline. Officers tranquilized it and plan to return it to the wild. Video from SkyFoxHD showed what appeared to be an injury on the deer's right hind leg.
It's not clear how the buck ended up there. Deer are considered good swimmers.
Governors Island- closed to the public until May of 2010- is located off the southern tip of Manhattan.
According to GovernorsIsland.com , nearly 300,000 people visited the island in 2009 for picnics, to ride bikes, see art exhibitions and many other events.
NJ.com reported that the deer was spotted earlier in the day in Jersey City and the city's animal control office began receiving calls this morning about the deer spotted roaming downtown.
