New York City threw a parade Friday morning for the New York Yankees to celebrate their 27th World Series title. The victory parade traveled through the financial district's Canyon of Heroes.
The ticker-tape parade began on Broadway at Battery Place at 11 a.m. and continued uptown along the Canyon of Heroes to Chambers Street. Then, a ceremony was held at City Hall Plaza, where Mayor Michael Bloomberg presented the Bronx Bombers with the Keys to the City.

"Congratulations to the Yankees for bringing the world championship back home to New York City, where it belongs," said Mayor Bloomberg. "The Yankees have thrilled the city all year long with their come-from-behind victories and never-say-die attitude, and they did it again in the World Series. What's sweeter than a World Series won at home? The only thing that comes close is a ticker-tape parade up the Canyon of Heroes, and that's exactly what New Yorkers will get on Friday."
The sidewalks lining Friday's ticker-tape parade up the Canyon of Heroes along Broadway from the Battery to City Hall were open to all members of the public.
The city set up a large screen near City Hall Park for members of the public to watch the ceremony.
There was very limited space on City Hall plaza for the ceremony itself. The city gave away a limited number of tickets to the public.
The last ticker-tape parade was held in February 2008 for the New York Giants after their Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots.
That parade reportedly cost $331,000. Most of the money was raised by NYC & Co., the city's marketing arm.
The New York Yankees' last parade through New York was in 2000 after the Bronx Bombers beat the New York Mets in five games for their 26th World Series title.
