CLIFTON, N.J. - A driver was seriously hurt after he crashed his car into a house in Clifton, New Jersey on Monday morning.

Police say the 48-year-old driver lost control of his Buick Century at around 5:33 a.m. as he tried to negotiate a curve at Van Houton Avenue. The car slammed into the house at 1 Athenia Avenue after jumping the curb, traveling over the lawn, through hedges and ending up inside the house.

No one inside the house was injured.  It's not clear how many people were inside at the time of the crash.

The unidentified driver has serious but not life-threatening injuries and was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson.

Clifton Police say there is no reason to believe the crash was anything but an accident.
