MYFOXNY.COM - Keeping those dogs healthy in local animal shelters comes at a price. Towns big and small, where spending is being slashed, animal care is taking a big bite out of the budget.
How big? Fox 5's Barbara Nevins Taylor has an exclusive investigation that reveals the shocking amount of money one employee in Brookhaven, Long Island, is racking up in overtime.
Lou Cordeiro earned $139,000 this year by working overtime at the Brookhaven Animal Shelter.
Neither the town supervisor nor the public safety commissioner would talk to Fox 5 on camera. A spokesman said that Cordeiro, a union employee, did nothing wrong because he got all of the overtime taking over the role of the supervisor when the shelter's prior supervisor retired and wasn't replaced for a while.
