MYFOXNY.COM - A four-year old girl from the civil war-torn Darfur region of Sudan who lived in a displaced persons' camp most of her life due to legal complications was reunited with her parents this week.

Wesal Adam was born in a refugee camp in August 2004. Her father, Motasim Adam, a Darfuri community leader and activist, had been granted asylum in the United States back in 2002, according to their lawyers.

Wesal's mother, Wejdan, was granted asylum in 2006, but because Wesal was conceived after her father had been granted asylum, the law did not allow her to accompany the mother to the United States.

Her mother made the agonizing decision to leave her daughter behind because of the horrendous dangers women face in the camps. The couple hoped they would be able to bring Wesal to New York as soon as possible.

Lawyers with Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman worked with the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society to convince federal officials to allow Wesal to come to the United States.
