NEW YORK - A charter school on the Lower East Side rolled out the red carpet for the presentation of President Barack Obama's speech to students this afternoon on a large-screen TV.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton introduced the president's speech to children at the Manhattan Charter School.
Meantime, some schools in the Tristate chose to not show the speech. In one Rockland County district, teachers were given the option to show the speech, and some did not.
"Teachers in Clarkstown are afforded the opportunity to make curricular decisions for their students based upon program and student needs. That said, the district will not be requiring that the President's message be a part of Opening Day in our classrooms," said Dr. Margaret Keller-Cogan, the superintendent of the Clarkstown Central School District.
