The word on the street is that New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg will be facing some unique competition in November when he's up for re-election.
" The Naked Cowboy ," aka Robert Burck, who can be seen in New York City's Times Square in his cowboy hat, tight white briefs and cowboy boots playing his guitar, is set to make an announcement about his candidacy on Wednesday, according to Reuters .
A statement announcing his plan to run states that Burck wants to help small businesses.
"No one knows how to do more with less than yours truly, and that's the kind of thinking I plan on sharing with my fellow New Yorkers when you elect me," Burck said. He also promised ideas on tax breaks, tourism, public transportation, gay marriage and more.
Bloomberg's main competitor in the November 3 mayoral race is Bill Thompson , the current New York City comptroller.
The Naked Cowboy made headlines last month when he tried to perform in his hometown of Greenhills, Ohio. A mayoral candidate there, Pat Andwan, opposed Burck's performance at a summer festival there, saying "it's an inappopriate venue for a man who only wears underwear." Burck said he was "aware there are people out there who are not underwear-friendly."
