When Brett Favre signed with the Minnesota Vikings last week, reactions ranged from outrage to surprise to excitement. One woman in Minnesota apparently saw the signing as an opportunity for the Vikings to break their 42-year Super Bowl curse.
The Vikings have lost in the Super Bowl four times and have come close to making it several other times.
Taking a page from the Chicago Cubs and their "Curse of the Billy Goat," a woman on her way to St. Paul for the Vikings' preseason game on Friday, painted a goat in the Vikings' purple and gold colors with Brett Favre's No. 4 shaved on its side and intended to sacrifice the goat, according to the Winona Daily News .
The woman stopped at an auto repair shop in Winona, Minn., on her way to the game and told repairman James Prusci of her plan and that the goat was in the trunk (video: MyFoxTwinCities) .
Prusci called animal control. They took the goat, named it Brett and placed it into foster care.
The Cubs' legendary "Curse of the Billy Goat" goes back to 1945 when Billy Goat Tavern owner Billy Sianis was asked to leave a World Series game at Wrigley Field because his pet goat's odor was bothering other fans. An outraged Sianis declared the Cubs would never win again. Chicago hasn't been back to the World Series since 1945 and hasn't won the World Series since 1908.
Goats also play a major role in Afgahnistan's national sport -- Buzkashi . Translated into English, Buzkashi means "goat grabbing" or "goat killing."
The dangerous game involves placing a headless carcass of a goat, a calf or a sheep in the center of a circle surrounded by the players of two teams who are on horseback. The object of the game is to pick up the carcass and bring it across a goal line or into the winner's circle. Players risk serious injury as their head brushes other horses' bodies and opponents' stirrups.
