Jetman's Inter-Continental Flight Fails

The jet-pack-propelled pilot known as the 'Jetman' failed in his attempt to fly between two continents Wednesday and ditched into the sea between Africa and Europe.

Yves Rossy was hoping to become the first person to make an intercontinental flight with a jet pack by flying across waters from Morocco to Spain.

According to Sky News , Rossy leapt from a plane at 6,500 feet and once airborne he unleashed his wings and fired up his engines. His flight started well with cameras capturing his flight. But he disappeared from view and it became unclear if he was continuing his record bid deep in the clouds or if he had been forced to bail out.

He was spotted in the Atlantic Ocean after a brief scare. A rescue team signaled he was alive and well. He was rescued and transported to a hospital in southern Spain.

"He's a courageous man," Stuart Sterzel, spokesman for sponsors Webtel.mobi, told reporters on a beach outside the southern Spanish town where Rossy was supposed to land. He said Rossy would probably attempt the crossing again next year, reported Fox News .

When flying, Rossy looks not unlike a comic-book hero with his contraption propelling him at speeds of up to 180 mph, according to Sky News .
