MYFOXNY.COM - A new saving life-law called the “911 Good Samaritan Law” is in effect for New York.
The law is designed to prevent drug and alcohol overdose fatalities and it encourages people to dial 911 if they experience or see a drug or alcohol overdose without fear of criminal charge and prosecution for possessing small quantities of drugs or alcohol (if they are a minor).
The bill was passed in July by Governor Andrew Cuomo, which made New York the fourth state to have this law.
The new law will have an impact in New York City, since accidental drug overdose is the fourth leading cause of early death after heart disease, cancer and HIV/Aids.
