MYFOXNY.COM - Firefighters battled a massive Easter Sunday brush fire on Staten Island. The six-alarm blaze was largely brought under control Sunday evening. The flames began around 2 p.m. and affected between 30 and 40 acres.

People in 30 homes were told to leave as a precaution. One firefighter suffered a minor back injury, and everyone has been allowed to return home.
Wind fanned the flames, which began near Mill Road and Kissam Avenue. Huge plumes of smoke could be seen as far away as Manhattan and New Jersey. It started when an abandoned house caught fire. That house was destroyed and two nearby homes sustained damage. The flames even ignited a beach retaining wall made of PVC pipe.
