More than 100 people, including dozens of children, were in the Kerestir Synagogue at the time, police said.

Several people confronted the man; others ran out the back door.

The suspect was described as a black man in his early 20s.

Community leaders hope if the suspect is caught that he will be charged with a bias crime.
